Qtel and NavLink to establish world-class Internet Data Centre for Qatar and the region
Activation of 155 Mbps international dedicated digital connection
18 November 2003

Doha, Qatar - Qtel announced today the establishment of a multi-million dollar Internet Data Centre (IDC) in Doha, in partnership with NavLink, by mid-2004. The agreement is geared towards satisfying the demand for reliable and secure hosting services while providing value added services to governmental and multinational organisations.

Qtel and NavLink have activated an STM-1 (155 Mbps) dedicated digital connection and IP port into AT&T’s network, a traffic leader in the North American Internet market. The link, which is carried on an all-fibre network with strict alarm surveillance and monitoring, will allow Qtel’s customers to continue enjoying high-quality and stable connectivity while paving the way for reliable and high performance IP services such as hosting services.
Qtel CEO, Dr. Nasser Marafih said, "We see a bright future in hosting services in Qatar because of the rapid rate of development in the IT infrastructure. Qtel's data centre will provide integrated end-to-end solutions, supporting a range of converged business applications such as voice, multimedia/video services, content hosting and data networking services. This move boosts Qtel's strategic intent to become the main centre for hosting and related value added services for customers not only in Qatar but in other countries in the region"

"Qtel continues to strive to provide the best in products and services for our customers and we have selected NavLink for this deal because of their strong system and network integration, together with their proven experience in building and operating IDCs and developing and selling managed hosting services," he continued.

Laurent Delifer, Co-President and COO of NavLink said, "NavLink operates a carrier class IDC in Nice, France, where we provide high end managed, hosting and disaster recovery services for our clients. We are happy to have signed this agreement with Qtel, as we believe our expertise will enable Qtel to satisfy the growing demand in the region for value added management services."

"As a fully authorized agent of AT&T, NavLink will be able to make available to Qtel's customers in the USA; AT&T services such as hosting, Intelligent Content Distribution Network, Managed Internet Service, VPN services and a whole range of data and packet services," according to Joel Peterson, NavLink Executive Managing Director, Global Partnering Practice, who will be overseeing the implementation of the agreement.
